India Home Health Care participates at the National Conference Ambulatory Surgery 2011

The first National Conference on Ambulatory Surgery and the launch of the Indian Society of Ambulatory Surgery [ISAS] was held in Bangalore on the 2nd and 3rd of September, 2011. The Conference was organized by Nova Medical Centers, pioneers in standalone Ambulatory Surgery Centers in India. The Conference provided a platform for Surgeons across specialties, Physicians, Nurses, Administrators, Quality Assurance Auditors, Biomedical instrument manufacturers and other Healthcare delivery professionals working in Ambulatory Surgery set-ups to share learnings and discuss cases of interest.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Frank Goller, Chief Executive Officer, India Home Health Care proposed a model that highlighted how home care nursing can benefit ambulatory surgery patients. He mentioned that home care nurses function as eyes and ears of the surgeon and went on to explain how a patient, discharged after a day care surgery, can be assigned a home nurse who will make a visit to the patient and assess the general status of the patient, check the vitals, examine the wound, review the medication, diet compliance and mobilization instructions. Apart from allaying the patient’s anxiety, the visit by the nurse will ensure that post-operative complications are minimized and dealt with immediately. This was received well by the surgeon community.

The benefits for the surgeon include reduced risk of sub-optimal surgical outcome, more diversity of procedures that can be done in ambulatory set up as monitoring and care at home is assured, providing a supportive, caring, yet professional face, and thereby reducing demands on the surgeon’s precious time, minimal need for unnecessary patient visits to the clinic/hospital. All this results in better surgical experience for the patients.
