Women’s Health Awareness
‘Sound mind in a sound Body’. To have a sound body everybody should be aware about the health issues, especially the Women. Women are the pillars of the family. If a Woman is familiar with basic healthy living then the whole family will have a good health. As a Mother, Wife, Daughter, Daughter-in-law, Sister, Sister-in-law, Grandma, Great Grandma she has got power to be a positive influence in the family. When the health care professional educates the women in the family on good healthy habits then the whole family will get the benefits and thereby the whole community will prosper with citizens with good health.
An adolescent girl should learn about proper hand washing techniques, hygienic sanitary procedures, nutritious diet that includes enough milk, spinach , dates for calcium and iron to prevent anemia and osteoporosis in later on in their life.
Women in childbearing years (20-40yrs) should be familiar about the contraceptive procedures, HIV awareness, healthy eating habits during the pregnancy, importance of exercises, back pain during pregnancy, incontinence of urine, importance of immunization for the babies, first-aid and familiar with common ailment like chicken pox, measles, typhoid etc. Once they are aware about the contraceptive procedures unwanted pregnancy can be avoided thereby women’s health is protected. Each and every pregnant women should know the importance of breathing exercises , pelvic floor exercises (kegel exercises) and walking exercises which facilitates the normal delivery.
Middle aged women (40-60yrs) should be familiar about the osteoporosis, a condition in which the bone density reduces thereby with trivial injury the osteoporotic bones break easily. Weight bearing exercises, yoga, swimming, walking reduces the risk of fall by strengthening and stabilizing the muscles which in turn is going to protect their bone. Awareness about the breast cancer, thyroid problems, stroke, diabetes, arthritis etc will prepare them to prevent further disability.
Elderly women (60-80yrs) should be knowledgeable about cataract, urinary incontinence, osteoporosis, fall prevention strategies, stroke, low back pain, arthritis to have a quality of life.
Very Elderly women (80-100yrs) if mentally alert and oriented should follow safety precautions in doing day to day activities to prevent fall.
In nutshell at each and every stage in life if Women is knowledgeable and familiar with popular health issues she is going to spread the word to her family and thereby creating a healthy society.
